Why? Well…
There are approximately 325 billion people in the world today. 300 billion live in Asia and India. Of the remaining 25 billion human beings on the planet, 23 billion of them are critics of some sort (all statistics and correct spelling of “billion” courtesy of the internet). So why start a movie blog? Because I can, and you can’t stop me.
“I don’t get it. What’s your endgame? Wealth? Fame? Women?”
Yes, yes, and no (I’m married and she might read this) But the whole thing seems unbloody likely. I like movies. I like talking about movies, and I like arguing movies. Sometimes, in depth conversation is due, occasionally I just like to reminisce about how cool it was when a bunch of stuff blew up. The rest of the time is spent running around with friends, ever so slightly misquoting lines from Spaceballs and Super Troopers. But there is plenty of argument and discussion on the web. People pick apart movies so hard I wonder why they bother going (“If you’re so good why don’t you make a movie?”)
Movies are supposed to be fun, they are supposed to take us to far away places, or to places close to home viewed in a new light. So where, I ask you, is the fun in picking them apart and berating someone who likes them. All it takes for a movie to be good is for one person to like it (but remember that good is not equal to successful, it takes quite a few people for that). It’s all subjective. I’ll try to keep that in mind as I write the reviews and, if you catch me slipping you get to call me names, online, for free. I like 9 out of 10 films I see in one way or another, so I’ll try to focus on the positives. If I believe a film is unredeemable in any way at all, I won’t waste my time writing about it (NO REVIEW FOR ANTICHRIST!!!!!!!)
I love cinema. All kinds. If you want to see the next big blockbuster, you are gonna see it no matter what I say. So, I’ll try to squeeze in as many indie, foreign, and poorly advertised flicks as I can in the hopes that you will see, and like, something that you wouldn’t have watched otherwise. Then, you will come back later to find out what else is out there. If I can get a few people to follow me like that, then it was worth more than any paycheck (YEAH RIGHT!).
